Background:
With a new spark in the animated series "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" many new viewers are being drawn to the anime. Starting off as a popular manga series in 1987 JoJo makes its return as an animated series in 2012. with the series currently being ongoing the story began here in Phnatom Blood. The main character Jonathon Joestar faces what we would consider more than ordinary troubles, when his father repays a debt by allowing the menacing Dio Brando into his home as a son of his own. The story is centered around the two boys and there battle for middle ground.
Review: With a very unique art style "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" can be easy to overlook to someone with a more narrow interest. While I knew about the anime the art is what drifted me away but before long the hype drew me in and I was very impressed. The characters of this anime met way more than my expectations. While Jonathon Joestar isn't known as the most popular Joestar in the community (story follows the bloodline) he was an amazing character to start this series. Known for his courageous acts and polite manners he is truly a nice model for a main character. Dio who is portrayed as the villain show, is known for menacing schemes that make you want to calculate his next move. Dio's character is more than intriguing and fun to watch and feels like a main protagonist himself. Overall its safe to say the characters are unique and original. Something else unique in JoJo is the power system. a system I have not yet heard of known as Hamon is controlled through breathing and allows the user to strengthen themselves to deliver fatal blows by focusing on certain parts of the body. Although personally I felt Hamon wasn't too complex and a tad bit stale, the writers mange to create ways to implement it in ways that will be far from predictable. Along with Hamon are the sound effects. JoJo is very well known for its emerging sound effects that will really intensify the battle field, along with some catchy music and OP's that are very memorable. Importantly Fighting in this series is far from your average punching and blasting although Hamon seems simple watching will prove why its not. Enemies are far from Generic, and are always playing mind games making you fearful for the main protagonist. Although to me it starts a bit slow JoJo part one is not a part to skip and working as an intro for the series,Phantom Blood really sets the tone for the bizarre adventure facing the Joestars.
